Veda Nath Mohabir, a keen follower of Hinduism, released his book, “Under Attack! The Caribbean Indian” on May 23. A resident of Toronto originally from Enmore, Guyana Mohabir said he was decidedly disturbed by "the racially denigrating and egregiously disparaging writings about Hinduism and East Indians by Dr Kean Gibson in her books, The Cycle of Racial Oppression in Guyana (2003) and Sacred Duty – Hinduism and Violence in Guyana (2005) and her January 2006 article published in the Journal of Black Studies 'The Dualism of Good and Evil and East Indian Insecurity in Guyana'."
Mohabir claimed that "these writings manifestly misrepresent Guyanese history, especially Indo-Guyanese contributions as documented by respectable authors such as Professor Raymond Smith (University of Chicago), Dr David Hinds (Arizona State University) and Guyanese African Elder, Eusi Kwayana". He charged that "these writings are primed with poorly researched and opprobriously false characterization of Hindu philosophy and East Indian traditions; impute racist and shady motives to East Indians’ actions and dealings; and engage in pseudo-academic analyses which could provide fuel for violent reprisals against East Indians".
"Kean Gibson has misused the auspices of UWI (University of the West Indies) to fund and promote her skewed works", Mohabir lamented, adding that “reciprocally, by funding her so-called research projects culminating in her two books, along with employing her as a lecturer without apparent due oversight and/or diligence, UWI has unwittingly aided and abetted the propagation of a dangerous, religious-intolerant and racist agenda". He further stated that his book (Under Attack!) shows that "this Gibson-type of zealous distortion has all the hallmarks of an ethnic cleansing of East Indians in Guyana and the Caribbean area in promotion and making".
Following is an interview between the book's author Veda Nath Mohabir (VNM) and Adit Kumar (AK) of this newspaper.
AK: Tell us some more about what this book is all about? VNM: This book is about defending Hinduism and East Indians against unwarranted literary and physical attacks. It is also about exposing distortions about and threats to Hindus and East Indians from religious and racist attacks in Guyana and the Caribbean. It warns of the potential of brewing ethnic conflict arising from the distortions referenced by Kean Gibson and other Caribbean racists.
AK: How would you say you achieved your objective in the book?
VNM: I have done so in two ways. Firstly by systematically refuting over twenty of Gibson’s unscholarly and racially dangerous arguments that Hinduism and East Indians are destroying Afro-Guyanese, economically and physically; and secondly by exposing virulent hate agendas by like-minded racists in Guyana and Barbados. Awareness of the flagrant racist and religious distortions will make potential perpetrators rethink their motives, as well as place likely Indian victims on guard of what is being said about them.
AK: Who would you say are the offenders?
VNM: Dr. Kean Gibson, a Guyanese who is employed as a linguist lecturer by the University of West Indies; Guyana insurgency masterminds and Gibson’s followers in Barbados and elsewhere.
AK: What are Gibson’s arguments that you are rebutting?
VNM: Gibson states in her books that violence is the heart and soul of Hinduism; that Lord Krishna [of the Bhagavad Gita] is bloodthirsty; that to kill Black people is to do the Lord’s work. She also states that Hinduism is married to the PPP government and so together unleash genocide on Blacks. She further states that Hindu Dharma means there is no moral code in the Hindu way of life - no “right” or “wrong”; and that East Indians are a problem in every country the British took them.
Her Barbados' followers say that they have problems with Hindus at the workplace because ‘Hindus work for less’ seemingly undermining the economy. Some say, according to Mr. Norm Faria’s complaint to the Barbadian police commissioner, "We have no problems with Christians and Moslems but we do with Hindus" and "[crime in Barbados] is Hindu Guyanese and Trinidad habits". Norm Faria is Guyana’s Honorary Consul in Barbados.
In Guyana, Africentric insurgency masterminds such as the late Ronald Waddell, a former PNCR candidate, argued that "East Indians are economic migrants who should be stripped of Guyanese citizenship; and that Africans should be made the politically dominant force in the 'Salvation State' after the revolution".
These are some of the points that I am rebutting in my book.
AK: How do you see Gibson's views translating to attacks on Indians?
VNM: Afro-Guyanese would naturally feel threatened and attack a government and East Indians who are painted as their oppressors instigated by Hindu doctrines. Gibson provides them the ideological cover for reprisal attacks on Indians. She posits that "Attacking East Indians can be seen as a [sacrificial] means of limiting violence’ on Blacks".
AK: How can the general public help? uBare Meetingstrippeddevi K Meeting Stripped Devi Stripped Szh Temel Ingilizce Ders Notlari Ve Gramer 1 Basic English Lesson 3966149 Meeting Stripped Devi communityj Nude Meeting Stripped Devi f f Music KINKYCORE.COM xBare Meetingstrippeddevi K Meeting Stripped Devi Stripped Szh Temel Ingilizce Ders Notlari Ve Gramer 1 Basic English Lesson 3966149 Meeting Stripped Devi communityz o 2012x-art
